I mean, football is the most popular global sport, and just look at how rabidly the fan base gets into the 'GOAT' debate, comparing Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, OG Ronaldo, Dinho, Pele, Maradona... It isn't like all the people having debates about which player of these is better are bluetooth fans from the subcontinent or somewhere else.

Coming back to cricket, most Aussies can't compare Ponting to Chappell because few youngsters are actually interested in the game enough to even go and watch Ponting highlights, let alone Chappell/Bradman etc. Hell, they might not even recall the best innings played by a recently retired/close to retirement player like Steve Smith.
