I would suggest looking to see if they previously invested in multiple companies in a space, and then reaching out to as many founders there as possible to ask how that went.

I would actually raise this concern to the VC in question and ask them if they have done this before and how they avoid conflicts. If they're not ready for this and don't give you a good answer with some examples of where they have done this before I would be very wary and maybe decline the meeting.

In general, particularly at early stages, I would try to avoid a conflict like this unless you were in a small niche with few investors.
