STK's strong and *vocal* adherents were really confusing to me but once you understand the ages of these diehard fans when they watched this film, then it became clear. It was a cliché good girl/bad boy fantasy, appealed to the teens and other young adults at the time, the soundtrack was praised, and the melodramatic ending only added to its cult following. At the time, it (rightfully) flopped and so, fans can add an "underrated" tag to the film as well.


I find STK in the same vein as other popular romantic dramas like A Walk to Remember and The Fault in Our Stars.
