Racism against U.P. people?

Instagram has boosted the bihari memes so much that even U.P. people are being targeted due to that. I'm in a college in south and I've seen that people just love taunting us, even rest of the North Indians taunt us. Bihari people have even worse situation, there are so many students in my clg who are bihari but reside in Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi and they always lie that they're from U.P. to be safe. But that has also backfired now even U.P.= Bihar to them which to some extent is true but yk. How do you handle this situation, should I start lying about my region from next time. It would be easy for me bcz people used to think I'm from Delhi but I made a mistake of correcting them and now I'm also facing the "Bihari" catcall.
