Why do so many desi tourists act like this?
I live near the main highway to Badrinath in a small town that used to be peaceful. Now, it's packed all year, and honestly, I wouldn’t even mind the crowd if people just knew how to behave. But some tourists? Absolute nightmares. They park their cars right in front of our gates, and when we ask them to move, they say *“Tere baap ka hai kya?”* Yes bro, it literally is. On New Year’s, some drunk idiots blasted music till morning, trashed my neighbor’s homestay, and acted like they owned the place. It’s not the crowd that’s the problem, it’s the lack of basic respect. One of the worst things I’ve seen happened on my way home from school. There’s road construction going on, so traffic is always jammed. One day, we were stuck, and I saw a guy in the car next to us recording the view from his sunroof. Fair, the view was majestic. But then he pulled out a beer bottle, drank, and started shouting random gibberish. The workers cutting the mountain told him to sit inside because landslides here are as common as breathing, but he got angry and started cursing at them. Our school bus driver, an old guy, told him, *"Brother, it's dangerous, sit inside"* For some eason, that triggered him. He got out of his car and started *kicking our bus*. Other tourists got out, not to help, but just to watch the drama. The boys in my bus were hyping up our driver like it was WWE, but things turned serious when that guy picked up his beer bottle and threw it at our driver. Luckily, it didn’t break. The driver and conductor were trying to calm him down while his own friends just sat in their car, doing nothing.I don’t mean to target anyone I’m just sharing what I’ve *seen*. I’ve barely traveled outside my state,in the name of cities just Haridwar once and Dehradun every year, but this was the first time I saw a full-on roadside fight like this. I know not everyone is bad, and likewise, not every Uttarakhandi is good either. I’ve seen how people in Haridwar throw garbage anywhere, and even in other places. I’m not trying to brag, but in my town, at least in my neighborhood, people are actually careful about it. Tourism is a major part of our economy, so we can’t deny visitors, but what are we supposed to do when they act like this? It’s not surprising why people hate Indians, especially North Indians, and honestly, we hate these kinds of tourists too.3
