What is the Golden lizard door in Padmanabha Swamy temple?

Hi all, I saw a small door with golden lizard carving/embossed in the Padmanabha Swamy temple after darshan. Devotees were praying to it, what is the significance of that door? It was an awesome feeling to get darshan and I wanted to know more about this golden lizard in particular. Thanks
