Bf wants to become a trader full time, am I trusting him blindly ?

So my bf is 27 and started learning trading at 17. He said at 19 he lost a couple thousand and it made him never trade with real money again however he has been spending many hours every week since just learning to trade. He learns with a mentor called ICT, says he’s a legit one. He trades currencies and enters trading competitions too, where he levels up. I’m just wondering if I should trust him with this as I’ve heard most traders aren’t making profitable amount of money but I keep thinking he’s been practicing his skills for so many years ? He does have a job currently but it’s a charity /marketing job and he’s not making much money. He wants to be a full time trader and eventually quit his job. Am I trusting him blindly ? Is he actually smart enough ?
