Can someone help me out with the returns of Indian Indices in terms of USD over different periods of time.
Hello Everyone, Can someone help me out with the returns of Indian Indices(Nifty 50, Nifty 500, Midcap 100, SmallCap 100, Smallcap 250) over say different time periods (3Y, 5Y, 10Y, 15Y, 20Y, 25Y) in terms of USD, and not the default INR tracking. The objective is to compare it with the returns of S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite/Nasdaq 100 over the same period and check if the Indian Indices have actually outperformed the US ones. I have a theory that the Indian Indices would have underperformed massively compared to the US counterparts because of INR depreciation. If the above assumption is correct, it would make sense to just invest in direct cheap Godlike ETFs that track S&P 500(VOO,SPY, IVV), Nasdaq(QQQ, QQQM, VGT which tracks MSCI tech) and reduce/stop the exposure to Indian markets considerably. Of course, This can also be done via MFs from India that invest directly in the US markets, but inflows to all of them have stopped. The caveat here is that the Indian Government can change the taxation for Foreign Assets anytime. Currently they have the same tax slabs for LTCG as the India assets with the difference in the period of LTCG being 2 years. Additionally, we have to deal with the problems of TCS, currency conversion charges, etc. Hovever, keeping aside the problems of investing in foreign assets, I would really like to understand where our indices stand when the returns are compared with the US indices in terms of USD and want someone to corroborate the above theory.4
