How did you get people to find your waitlist for mvp? I will not promote

I have a mvp almost ready for a platform that I have been working on for a couple of months outside of school. Now all that is left is to get the message out and gather interest. This is my first ever attempt at starting something of my own so I have very little knowledge of how to get the word out. Any kind soul willing to share hoe they got their initial traction?
