Have I already messed up?

I created a Web application and I just did a soft release this week. At this point, I am offering a free lifetime subscription. I am not sure how to monetize this app or even if that is possible. I know that the app is a great idea and that it can help people, but I don’t know if I can make money off of it. I’ve even considered trying to possibly make it a nonprofit. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I figured let’s get the app out there live And if I get people to sign up and use it then I’ll feel like I have accomplished something.
