Update to Toxic Startup (I will not promote)
As seen here: https://www.reddit.com/r/startups/s/I3UAtLSC76 Another senior member quit. The CEO called the entire 50 person team away from day-to-day activities and admonished me for the employee leaving. “Why is loyalty an issue with YOUR TEAM?” Is what he asked me, who is subordinate to the guy who quit. I talked back for the first time in 2.5y - asked why I’m being bullied when I’m clearly loyal, still on the team, and still working diligently to pursue our objectives. The CEO hung up, called me personally with HR on the line. We ended up at his house until 9PM, explaining issues with the team and leadership. I resigned and was begged to stay after a bipolar tirade about loyalty, equity, with the $100k of clawbacks hanging over my head. This is the most toxic place that I have ever been, the wheels are falling off and I’m waiting until spring so I can sell my house and hike the r/CDT. What a ride. Not sure where to go from here. I love startups, it’s been exciting but I need a break. Not sure what I want from posting, happy to hear your anecdotes about losing money to clawbacks, bad CEOs, and finding peace following diving into a company with both feet.4
