Humility vs growth

Let's say you're someone who values humility. I think it’s pretty fair to say these days that self-promotion plays a pretty important role in growing a startup. How do you go about this trade-off? I just think it’s an interesting paradox and wondered if anyone had thought about this and what conclusions they’ve come to.
