bad startup experience (I will not promote)
I’ve recently been interning at a startup and it’s made me question whether I would want to work at one. Can someone tell me whether this is a common experience? There was poor leadership on my first day when the founder was having her own convos with coworkers when she just said hello to me. I thought this was really weird to do infront of an intern who LITERALLY just walked in. A good leader would work on breaking the ice with the intern. Also in a meeting, the founder just kept staring at me when i was talking without nodding, which was really uncomfortable as it felt isolating to someone who is new to the team. The cofounder kept leaving me out of conversations and taking a while to acknowledge me as well on my first few days too. In daily meetings, I am asked to recap my work last, which makes me feel insignificant. It’s also unprofessional that they made my intern plan with AI and it’s just a “rough guide”. They dumped a task on me without asking me if i knew how to do it and there was no one to teach me how to do it either. The team member who is closely related to my project doesn’t even know what my project is about as i barely work with her due to her being remote They take ages to give feedback and it’s conflicting between the founder and my mentor which just worsens my perception of the place.2
