Does “old school” SEO still work?

Let’s say I have a business/website that sells shoes. There are different pages on my website for hiking boots, running shoes, athletic shoes, etc… My main goal is to rank highest for shoes in my local market for website visits and sales both online and brick & mortar. So when I say “old school” SEO… I mean stuff like this… Hiking focus: Page with links to local hiking clubs. Individual blog posts/articles (on website) describing outings on different locally known hiking trails… with a “find the right hiking boots for you” link on the bottom linking to our hiking boots page. YouTube videos of hiking certain trails with our store name, city, hiking trail name, and maybe hiking boot name… in the description… obviously linking to our YouTube channel from our website, and from YouTube to our website. Announcement type of blog posts saying “we now carry this brand” or have a new selection of hiking boots.. with a link to our boot page. “How to choose a hiking boot” blog post with link to our sales page… General area information posts that simply emphasize our store name with our towns name and highlighting local events, etc… Repeat the same thing with focus on running shoes, running trails, running topics… athletic shoes, local athletic fields, groups, activities… Lather, Rinse, repeat… My “idea” is that we feed google (and our potential customers) enough online content that emphasizes: Our name Our town Our local areas Our type of shoes The type of activities those shoes are for Etc… that we will be in a good place to attract local customers searching for shoes. Or maybe be seen as a search result for one of the other topics we covered. Does this type of strategy still work?
