Why is our heritage getting lost?

Every day, havelis are being broken by government for development. We are losing it all in Jaipur. Is that because we are not as culturally sensitive as we were in past or is it because we are idiots. All I see is chapris nowadays in old city, gutka stains everywhere. Are we only going to be civilised and sensitive to feeling when we enter mandir, masjid and church. Jaipur and Rajasthan in general can compete with European countries in architecture but it's our own cultural insensitivity which drags us back.
