Why do Indians try to take away the beauty of Punjab?

Many Indians get angry when someone takes pride in being Punjabi over Indian. Like why would I care for being Indian or a nationality that means nothing compared to an actual ethnicity that represents me much more. Also Punjab is such a diverse region that it has encompassed so many different people, and tribes, that are all now Punjabi. It’s definitely greater than the Indian sphere of influence people try to put on it.
