  • A unique name given by Ancient Persians to Punjab

Persian Empire (Achaemenids), the first historical empire to conquer Punjab gave it a unique name that is recorded as **SATTAGYDIA** in Greek records, thats derived from Old Persian name **THATAGUŠ**. However, we dont have any such name recorded in local texts. So, definitely this name was invention of the ancient Persians. The meaning of this name is also pretty simple, **the country of hundred cows**, denotes the abudence of cattle and developed agriculture in ancient Punjab. The name can be reconstructed in Sanskrit as शतगोः *(šatago:)* and in Punjabi as *saugã* or ਸੌ-ਗਾਂ or سو-گاں It consists of two important kingdoms - * Kingdom of Taxiles ਤਕਸਿਲਾ تکسلا * Kingdom of Porus ਪੁਰੂ پورو
