High electricity bill - need suggestions
Hello there, Had been getting a high electricity bill for some time now - generally aroung 5000 per month with 330 - 350 units registered monthly. I started getting a high bill since COVID and assumed it to be due to work from home and ignored but recently I compared with some colleagues and realized how absurd that reading is. Yes I do have a fair bit of electronic appliances in my house but neither use an AC or an inverter; I got appliance specific smart meters from Tapo and Wipro and used them continuosly on all major appliances and cycled them for smaller appliances and adding the max of every meter from a few months I got a reading of 205 units (which is the worst case as it was different months where the max reading was registered) - generally speaking it went around 180-190 units. Using the MSEB app I calculated the units for my fans and lights which came around 80 - so I'm generally expecting around 250 units which is way less than what I got. Had raised a complaint about this with MSEB, and generally speaking it seems like the people you raise a complaint to - email or support team or app know nothing about it and just allocate some person from MSEB. I was told that inspection would be performed and I can accordingly pay charges. The person that came in from MSEB just removed a red wire from the meter, showed that it's not registering, put it back and showed that it is registering so there is no fault in the meter. He also refused to take a look at the reports captured via Tapo / Wipro meters in there apps and mentioned that his work is done and we can reach out to an authorized contractor for it. On checking with their customer care if what was done was accurate they simply opened a request and sent him back - where he was quite annoyed and asked if he should just cut the power until the issue is resolved and he will put it back once we say it's ok. After calming down in a bit he said a wiring test report in D1 format will be required to indicate any issues and we can directly submit it to the MSEB office. While he was refusing to look at the readings he said that it could be due to improper grounding - which I did not buy as while improper grounding can cause leakage it should not be of this magnitude. Then he mentioned that in case I was using an AC that takes 1000W, if it's faulty it might take 3000W - which again I did not buy as it will short-circuit where he mentioned that it might just burn something internally which you won't realize - not to mentioned the meters were connected to the appliances and they would have registered this higher power draw. I also had to raise the complaint multiple times and both - the person that called me about the issue and the one that visited asked not to keep on raising a complaint - I genuinely wonder how much they know about it or if they do they were trying to shove responsibilty. Because, he kept on mentioning that MSEB work is done now you can take it up with someone external and you can just submit the report from a private contractor if you think an issue is there while mentioning that there is a lab test id for the meter - he was unwilling to provide any report for the inspection but is demanding one (and according to him just removing and putting back the red wire was the whole inspection). I was also considering installing a submeter but he mentioned that we won't accept a submeter reading either. Has anyone experienced something similar and how did you sort it out? Also if there's anyone that knows more about this I would appreciate any insight or suggestions you can provide. Thanks and Regards3
