Future of investments in India

So before asking let me clear one thing ,I don't know how any of this investments ,market ,finance ,economy ,etc etc works . question :given the government policies of giving freebies ,free ration ,money ,electricity ,reservation in education ,scams ,increasing taxes and increasing costs of food ,along with more and more people investing their life saving in markets and funds .Is this a safe bet ? or lets say 5-10 year down the line when govt has got no money to give away to all laadle people ,can govt get their hands on investments and funds for funding these freebies ? how do you prepare for the day when economy tanks ?how do you save your investments from such condition ?
