A Sweet goodbye to remember
It was around 8:30 PM, and I was exhausted from the day as I switched to the blue line at Rajiv Chowk. The metro was crowded, as always, and I didn’t manage to find a seat. That’s when I saw her—a girl in a beige jacket. She wasn’t loud or attention-seeking, but there was something so effortlessly cute about her that I couldn’t help but notice. As the train moved, I realized she was standing near the ladies' seats. Softly, I told her one of the seats was vacant. She sat down, and I stepped back, giving her space, yet my eyes couldn’t help but search for her in the sea of people. I caught sight of her again a little farther away, and for a brief moment, our eyes met. It wasn’t much, just a second or two, but there was something in that glance. We looked away, not wanting to linger too long or make anyone uncomfortable. I found myself glancing in her direction, wondering if I should start a conversation. Then I thought, kya hi farak padta hai... if it’s meant to be, maybe we’ll get off at the same station. The train slowed down as my station approached. I moved toward the doors, stealing one last look at her. This time, she was already looking my way. We shared another fleeting moment, and then, before stepping off the train, I raised my hand, waved, and said, “Bye.” To my surprise, she smiled and waved back. It wasn’t much, just a simple goodbye between two strangers, but it felt... sweet. As the train doors closed behind me, I couldn’t help but smile. Some moments don’t need words or reasons, they’re just meant to be cherished for what they are. And this was one of those— a sweet goodbye.1
