How much shame did your parents put you through?

I was a NEET for 2 years and I'd say they didn't shame me all that much if at all, never actually felt attacked. Been employed for a year now though in a job I hate and want to switch... I still live with my parents and the moment they heard that they got a bit upset questioning if I'll repeat the same mistakes. Also denied all options I mentioned I'd been considering switching to, which were different trades, saying they weren't suitable for me. They didn't berate me. They didn't quite reprimand me. They just asked and said some passive aggressive things. However that was enough for me to loose all my courage to quit and switch to a trade. Them being just a little bit passive aggressive is enough for me to not be able to stand against them. Well anyway I'd imagine some if not most of y'all went through way worse. How did you handle it?
