Mysore to Chikmagalur 1 day trip

Hi all, I'm planning to travel to Chikmagalur from Mysore this weekend. We(6 ppl) will be travelling by a car. One day will be to visit Mysore and another would be to visit Chikmagalur. I want to know what places are worth visiting in Mysore & Chikmagalur. Can it covered be in 2 days? If not Chikmagalur, what other options can be explored from Mysore in a day? Please help.
