Why like this??My Thoughts on Spending: A Personal Finance Journey
I’ve been observing something really interesting about how people in Mumbai handle their money. Unlike in other places where people might feel the need to show off, Mumbaikars seem to have this quiet confidence—they don’t feel the pressure to flaunt what they have. Coming from Central India, I’ve always admired this about the city. But lately, I’ve noticed something that’s made me pause and think. At my workplace, there are folks who are doing really well financially—they own multiple properties in Mumbai, have steady incomes, and are clearly not struggling. Yet, when it comes to spending on things that could make their lives easier, like a new phone or laptop, they hold back. They’ll keep using the same old device, even if it’s slow or barely functional, until it completely gives up on them. I get it—saving money is important, and being careful with spending is a good habit. But there’s a point where being too frugal can actually hold you back. Ignoring small upgrades that could make your day-to-day life smoother feels like taking things a step too far. It’s like they’re so focused on saving that they forget to live a little. It’s made me wonder: where’s the balance? How do you know when you’re being smart with money, and when you’re just denying yourself things that could genuinely make life better? It’s something I’m still figuring out, but it’s definitely got me thinking about my own spending habits.2
