Scammed by auto driver in thane

was going somewhere in Auto in thane with my 10 yr old son.. and my auto driver seems like talking to his daughter on phone who is in UP about her trying to buy some books for 10th class and shopkeeper not giving the books on credit . He kept saying he doesn’t hv enough now as he gave some money for rent and asking the shopkeeper if he can wait for month end , I was listening to the conversation and then asked him what’s going on. He said he isn’t doing better financially and not able to send any money to her daughter to get tha books and the books will be gone after that day if not paid.. I didn’t say anything for the ride but at the end of the ride I upi paid him 1800 rupees . He gave me his cell number and asked me to call him anytime I need a ride. It’s been a while like 6 months now and now I m reading lot of such scams happening so I m wonder king if I was take advantage of that day. Just posting here in case people come across such things ..
