Scam at a signal?

Yesterday while I was idle in a car at a traffic signal(Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli), I got a approached by a guy. He was young, around 20. He was gasping for breath. He murmured something like, "My vehicles clutch plate is broken....mom and friends not picking up....need urgent cash.... please help....any amount will do...give me your number.. I'll gpay you back" While I said no at first, he begged me more. I thought I can afford this amount, 440 to be exact. I gave him 500 note. I don't regret giving it. I am yet to receive the amount from him while writing this. I'll update if I ever get it. I want to know if any of you have encountered similar situation. And also warn/notify you of such incidents.
