Our First Attempt at Selling Handmade Jewelry on Mumbai Streets—A Learning Experience!
We recently tried to sell our handmade beaded earrings at Bandra Hill Road and Linking Road, hoping to connect with people who appreciate handcrafted artistry. However, we faced unexpected challenges—BMC restrictions on roadside selling made it impossible for us to continue. While we saw many daily hawkers selling fearlessly, as we were selling inhand box like there is no space occupied on footpath or any other side and some locals advised us not to risk some tried to ask us to move a side by arguing we are selling daily here so it's our place....you can go ahead. As independent artists, we put our heart into creating unique jewelry, and we truly want to sell in places where people value craftsmanship over mass-produced accessories. So now, we’re looking for better markets and fairs in Mumbai where handmade products are respected and appreciated. If you know of any markets, exhibitions, or pop-ups where people genuinely support artisans, please share your suggestions! We would love to hear from fellow artists and customers who care about authentic handmade jewelry. Let’s build a community that values creativity and originality!4
