Has the quality and reliability of Mumbai Local drastically deteriorated in the past couple of years?
I'm surprised I haven't seen more people talking about this. Now Locals were hardly ever something you looked forward to. Unless you were too lost in the sauce of the proverbial sprite. But I don't remember it being this bad. Two or three years ago, trains could be expected to run on time (at least on Bombay Time™ — which is a few mins late) but you'd reasonably get one every 4-5 mins, and a ten minute delay was seen as unusual. Nowadays, delays are the norm, not the exception. It's really strange. Earlier today, I waited in the sweltering heat for 10-12 minutes on the platform starting 4PM for a train which was designated 3:23 Andheri S. Usually, you have two trains going any given direction (up/down). Lately it's almost always the case that there's only one train for a given direction, and it's late, which means you're essentially stuck. This is sickening and worrisome as population seems to have considerably gone up in recent years, so you'd expect more rail capacity, not less. The situation is especially dire in the western suburbs. Earlier, commuter traffic would mostly taper down after 10PM. And it used to be the case that at Mira road, last of the horde would get off, and the trains became relatively empty. Currently, sometimes it's difficult to get *_on the train_* at _midnight_ at mira road (going north!) the last straw for me was NYE, when I spent 10-15 minutes on the platform waiting for a train, getting to a party, and as a result, when the clock struck twelve, I was on the train. FML and fuck this godless city. Bombay, I love you but you're bringing me down. What do you think is going on? Has there been a change in the administration of locals? Sure, population has grown, but I find that reason alone insufficient. I suspect it's bureaucratic incompetence3
