A probability puzzle for Mumbaikars

From what I know, ticket checking in locals happen in 2 places - either on the platform/bridge or in the first class compartment. Assuming you are travelling in a non AC train - What would you prefer? Travelling first class with a second class ticket (so you have a ticket to show at the platform) OR travelling in second class with no ticket? In which case will you be better off? Given that penalty for ticketless travel in second class compartment is ₹250 and first class is ₹750.
