A principled and honest railway official made me realise that there are still some good people left in the big bad world!
I was at a ticket vending machine of a harbour line railway station around a fortnight ago. I chose my destination and scanned the QR code, payment was deducted however the paper ticket didn't pop out much to my dismay. This happened to two guys behind me in the queue as well. So we were three unlucky people with money deducted but no ticket in hand. We complained to the booking counter official. He checked the machine, it hadn't even printed the damn tickets despite the system deducting the ticket cost. He then summoned a senior official from the main booking office who came and took my contact number, gave me his number and promised me that I'd get the refund in 2-3 working days. On that assurance, I went along my way. Days passed. After around a fortnight, there was still no refund. I assumed the money was gone forever. Taking a chance, I called the railway official and reminded him of the pending refund. To my sheer surprise, he remembered me, and gave me two options: either I visit the booking office and he'd give me a cash refund or he could send it via GPay. I opted for the latter as I wasn't travelling on that route and it was fortuitous that he sent me the payment from his account via GPay on the premise of a mere phonecall. I was simply flabbergasted at his prompt gesture to say the least! I immediately called him to confirm that I had recieved the payment with regards.3
