Rode an NS400z - i don't get the hate
After trying a lot of dealers to get a long test ride, i finally got one albiet with a showroom guy as a pillion. I'm kind of impressed honestly and at this point it's a steal deal, I know the subreddit doesn't like this bike but here are some of my thoughts. Pros: 1. Smooth engine - I don't know how, but the dominar/duke engine in this is super smooth, no footpeg vibrations until 7k rpm which is quite crazy, they're only felt in the handlebar in first gear. But the bike is crazy smooth at high as well as low rpms. 2. Good ergonomics - ns200 seat and new handlebar make for a nice and comfortable seating position. The handlebar isn't short like the duke 390, nor as long as the dominar, it's just long enough to where you can't complain. You'll still be slightly leaned over don't expect fully upright ergonomics, people who've ridden an ns200 this will seem very similar. 3. Headlamp is good - had some tunnels to test headlight, seems to be same unit from n250/n160 in that case it's probably one of the best headlights on the market. 4. Good features - RBW isn't laggy, switchgears are well built and are similar to gen 2 Dukes, offers TC and riding modes which actually affect performance,I couldn't differentiate between road and sport though but it comes with all essential features and No useless gimmicks which I can respect. Cons - 1. Engine isn't exciting, the reviewers were right, it's super SUPER linear in power delivery, no fun factor at all, but it is smooth at high revs and has power throughout so you can choose to keep it in high revs without any problem. Also for new riders its probably the easiest engine to get used to, you can ride this in low revs like a commuter no problem. 2. Ns200 bodywork - ns200 plastics arent the best, rest of the bike is built well but the body plastics arent great ngl. 3. Brakes - I suspect this is an issue with my test bike but there was barely any bite, reminded me of the scrambler 400x where you need to really pull hard to brake fast, for the speeds this bike can do I expect better brakes - any ns400 owners do comment if your experience is the same or different. Overall though, I don't get the hate at all. This is super controversial but I would take this over a speed 400 for the engine alone, i genuinely couldn't believe how refined this old dominar engine was especially on this beat up test bike. I had no complaints with the tyres either, they look skinny but get the job done while cornering. Bike's weight is also super well distributed, I had a pillion behind but it felt like no one was sitting behind it even while moving it with legs alone, bike feels super light. In short, this is a super competent bike, I don't get the hate and at this price it's a steal honestly.5
