Indians w/ their Misplaced Priorities
People in India seem to have their priorities all wrong when it comes to riding gear. They’ll spend over ₹2 lakh on a motorcycle but won’t invest even 2% of that on a good helmet to protect their own head. They’ll look down on others for riding a sub-200cc bike, yet have no issue wearing a ₹1,000 helmet that offers minimal protection. I ride both a bike and a scooty, and I’ve lost count of how many people have told me, "You don’t need riding gloves for a scooty." As if safety depends on the vehicle you ride rather than the risk of falling. It’s not about how expensive or powerful your bike is. It’s about making sure you live to ride another day. People shouldn’t be embarrassed about what bike or scooty they ride. What they should be embarrassed about is how little they’ve spent on their own safety compared to their vehicle. A ₹2 lakh motorcycle with a ₹1,000 helmet isn’t a flex—it’s a disaster waiting to happen. Prioritize safety over status.2
