Why are people in Dakshin Karnataka so into Altos, K10s, and Celerios?

On my recent journey from Bangalore to Mangalore, I noticed that a significant portion, about 75%, of the cars I saw were small models such as the Alto, K10, and Celerio. Could you explain why these cars seem to be so popular with Dakshin Karnataka ppl ?
