Looking to make friends

Hi, I'm new to Mangalore and I'm looking for like minded friends. But the thing is I'm kinda shy and introverted and no matter how brave I try to be, I just don't end up making the move to introduce myself... I've been going to the beach but I feel most of everyone there is with someone or minding their own business. So, is there a place in Mangalore, where people specifically come to socialize and interact? I heard there are no clubs and no night life, all of which pretty much sucks. Going to gym is definitely on my list of stuff to do, but other than gyms or yoga classes, where in Mangalore can I meet some interesting people. Please give me some suggestions, I'm really bored!
