3 day itinerary for Mangalore/Udupi?

Hi All, My friend and I are planning to visit Mangalore and Udupi to celebrate a birthday weekend from 2nd to 4th Feb. What are your recommendations? What can we do? Where can we stay? Please recommend and also, how is the safety in the city? (both females)
