Desperately Seeking Advice to Sell or Utilize Our Family’s Rubber Plantation in Kanjangad, Kerala
Hi everyone, I’m posting here because I’m feeling frustrated and helpless about a situation involving a four-acre land my family owns in Kanjangad, Kasargod, Kerala. This land was purchased years ago when rubber prices were skyrocketing. At the time, my parents, who weren’t fully aware of how investments work, were convinced by a relative to buy this property. They trusted him blindly and made the decision. Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out as expected, and the situation has only gotten worse over time. The land is in a remote area, which makes it extremely difficult to sell. We’ve been trying for years, but nobody seems interested, especially at a price that even comes close to what we spent on it. In fact, most offers aren’t even half of what we originally paid. After my father passed away last year, this relative—who initially encouraged us to buy the land—has also become less involved. He’s older now and dealing with health issues, so he’s not as active in helping us find a solution. To make matters worse, the rubber trees on the land aren’t even being tapped anymore. The plantation has been sitting there idle for years, generating zero income. We’re not making anything out of it, and we don’t have the resources or connections to start utilizing it ourselves. At this point, we’re desperately looking for solutions. • Option 1: Sell the land at a reasonable price. • Option 2: Find a way to start tapping the rubber trees again and make the land productive. If anyone has advice on how to market or sell such a property in a remote area, or knows someone who might be interested in purchasing rubber plantations in this region, I’d be extremely grateful. Alternatively, if there’s any guidance on how to start using the land for rubber production again, I’d love to hear it. I’m open to any suggestions, recommendations, or even leads that could help us. This situation has been weighing heavily on my family, and we really need to make something happen. Thanks in advance for reading and for any advice you can share.1
