Case against CPM leaders including MV Jayarajan for blocking highway in Kannur

The Kannur Town Police registered a case against CPM leaders on Tuesday for blocking a highway while laying siege to the Head Post Office. According to the police, over 5,000 identifiable individuals have been booked in the case. CPM District Secretary MV Jayarajan has been named the first accused, while MLA KV Sumesh also faces charges. The CPM district committee organised the protest against the central government’s alleged discrimination against Kerala in the Union Budget. The police registered a case after determining that the protest violated a 2010 order by the Kerala High Court, which prohibited public meetings on roads and road margins.
