A reality check in two images for the general public being exposed to OTT wedding celebrations
This post is not to rain on Manasi's parade,l personally loved all the looks she has curated for her wedding and both of them seem to be in love and it shows through their thoughtfulness and gestures for each other-but here is the bane of being a social media personality;they are all selling a lifestyle which they break their own backs and banks to promote. With the avalanche of wedding celebrations taking place this month, behind every 'Saas Leti Hu Toh Kisiki Shaadi Ho Jati Hai' comment is someone experiencing major FOMO,but what's not immediately recognised is that keeping up with social media monkey-see-monkey-do trends push people to the brink of mental, physical and monetary exhaustion. I still remember when Shivani Bafna was getting married, which was after a grand proposal in Paris and a dozen pre wedding events, she put up a screenshot of her chat with her fiance where he was talking about facing anxiety over the D-Day and she replied with how excited she was about the whole shebang.Poor chap was developing cold feet and she was so enchanted by how things will turn up for the world to see,she missed out on being there for him;Sahil can be seen driving a buggy around to mark spots where the videographers could get a good view of Manasi's dance performance while he is the co owner of a wedding planning business with an entourage working under him! Is everything just show sha and all this dikhava is making people empty from inside? What's the point of celebrating love when you are tensed and worried about the minutest details?Weddings are replete with chaos and stress anyway, but is it worth taking on the added responsibility of making it picture perfect for the gram and exhausting your moolah? This is for anyone who is beating themselves down looking at content creators go on trips every two days, buy luxury cars and get married on a grand scale - this is a part of their social identity and they need to build on it for revenue generation and the easiest way to do that is by selling a lifestyle! Your 9-5 or the education you are pursuing currently might not catapult you into a land of fame and sponsorships, but it will sustain you a life that one can make about health and happiness otherwise. Please look out after yourselves, this economy thrives on insecurity and I'm sure y'all are doing the best you can with what you have🤍 (Also,if this essay didn't make you feel as empowered as I wanted you to-atleast we don't talk to our partners on a public forum while sitting right next to each other lol)4
