How an standalone GPS works in a Smartwatch without connecting to wifi or mobile data.

I always hand in mind, now I am using Apple watch 8, but I am trying to move with Garmin itself (Using for last 4 years). I am not comparing, but what is difference in GPS positioning.. Can someone explain how its working...
