Deewaniyat vs Woh Toh Hai Albelaa
StarPlus's new show 'Deewaniyat' is the same story as the Star Bharat show 'Woh To Hai Albelaa (WTHA)' which itself was a remake of the Tamil show 'Eeramana Rojave'. I've watched all 3 shows but I wanted to specifically see comparisons between Deewaniyat and WTHA as they both are hindi shows. From what I've seen, Deewaniyat is much higher budget and everything is just on such a grand scale. They all live in huge mansions with a million workers and do horseback riding. WTHA is more of a simple small-town family story. The biggest issue I think Deewaniyat had was that Jeet and Mannat's chemistry was a bit too good. After the kind of chemistry they had, I'm struggling to accept Dev as Mannat's love interest. In WTHA, Sayuri's love with the brother wasn't shown as much. They actually showed more banter between Kanha and Sayuri. In Deewaniyat there wasn't much banter shown between Dev and Mannat besides like 2 scenes. However, Sayuri and Kanha accepted the marriage very quickly and immediately stopped all their banter. Meanwhile in Deewaniyat, Mannat isn't ready to accept Dev and blames him for everything. In this case, I personally thought that Sayuri moved on a bit too quickly as there isn't as much mention of the brother after he dies. Mannat repeatedly cries over Jeet which seemed more natural as they truly had great on-screen love. I feel like Deewaniyat and WTHA are on 2 opposite ends. WTHA is a bit too lighthearted and it isn't as natural as Sayuri and Kanha's immediate acceptance of the marriage after their banters didn't seem right. On the other hand, Deewaniyat has a bit too much drama with the repeated blaming on Dev and crying. I wished Mannat made bit more of an effort to try and understand Dev and the situation and I wished Sayuri and Kanha's story was a bit more natural in terms of the grieving. I felt like Kanha's entire character changed after the marriage. Perhaps a mix of Sayuri's understanding and Mannat's natural reaction to the death of her love would have made a better FL. I was also thinking about whether showing the FL and the ML's brother's romance was good or not. Not showing it as much in WTHA made it easier to accept Kanha unlike in Deewaniyat with Dev and Mannat. This also, however, made the story seem very unnatural with the FL easily moving on with the ML. I think both these shows need some kind of a balance between drama and lightheartedness. They also need to balance between natural and dramatic storytelling. What do you guys think?4
