The Donald Trump administration has cracked down on the controversial United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It has sent senior officials on leave, fired contractors and, most importantly, imposed a sweeping freeze on foreign assistance. Elon Musk, tasked to head DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), has dubbed USAID a ‘criminal organisation’. “Time for it to die,” he said in a tweet on Sunday (2nd February).
