Is Champions Trophy 2025 a double-edged sword?
Have been seeing posts across reddit about how Indian Cricket has been ruining the" ***integrity*** " of Cricket worldwide and it doesn't make sense to me. Funnily enough these titles and allegations were inspired by the telegraph, which is a paper from the pre-colonial era that can't accept the reality. Who in their right mind would expect India to go play again Pakistan in Pakistan? Yes, I agree that I'd love to see Rohit and Jaiswal score some 500+ on their roads but that's besides the point. Given the history of Pakistan, sending Indian players there would have been extremely risky. It'd be like asking Palestine to play in Israel against Israel or Ukraine to play against Russia in Russia (not saying we're like them, just an example). Something most of these blogs don't seem to comprehend is that India is a country of 1.4B people, which also means a LOT of viewership and hence has established a "monopoly" over intl cricket. The easiest solution for the CT would've been playing the group with IND in the middle east while establishing a revenue split with said countries allowing PCB to still earn and maybe only have the odds of not having a finals. If anything blame the broadcasters for this. India will always have an upper hand because of the population but what have the english media done to boost cricket among their youth and engage them in it? Now the situation is like a double edged sword, making ICT the villain. If we lose in Dubai, we'll be made fun of. If we win the finals against Pakistan in Dubai, we'll be called monsters for having some kind of pre-set field advantage in Dubai. Player fatigue for NZ, Ban and Pak will be quoted as a reason if we beat them. Blame the ICC for not having a spine against the broadcasters' demands and blame the broadcasters for thinking IND v PAK is still such a big ODI rivalry when atleast 80% of ICT fans are licking their lips at the chance of beating Aus at ODIs in an ICC tourney.4
