If India has to bat more than 60 overs tomorrow to save the match, they're going to be really tested.
If we leave out the second innings in Perth, this has been India's performance in the BGT so far: Perth: 1st innings — 150 all out in 49.4 overs Adelaide: 1st innings — 180 all out in 44.1 overs 2nd innings — 175 all out in 36.5 overs Brisbane: 1st innings — 252/9 in 74.5 overs But just take a look at the fall of wickets: Jaiswal - 4/1 - 0.2 ovs Gill - 6/2 - 2.1 ovs Kohli - 22/3 - 7.2 ovs Pant - 44/4 - 13.5 ovs Rohit - 74/5 - 23.3 ovs KL Rahul - 141/6 - 42.3 ovs NKR - 194/7 - 59.5 ovs Siraj - 201/8 - 62.6 ovs Jadeja - 213/9 - 65.6 ovs Basically in 3 out of 5 innings, we have been comfortably all out within 50 overs. If not for the superb rear-guard action, we would be comfortably all out within 50 overs in Brisbane as well. Out of the maximum possible 98 overs tomorrow, say we lose 15-20 overs to rain / bad light. We get ~75 overs of play. Say India bat 5 overs in the morning, then Australia bat 15-18 overs scoring 100-120 runs and set India a target of about 300 with 50-55 overs left in the day. It's really not going to be easy with RoKo being walking wickets and Jaiswal, Gill, and Pant having a compulsive need to play attacking cricket at all times. If KL Rahul falls early, the pressure will really start to show on the others, and we all know India's ability to crumble like a pack of cards under pressure. The main challenge for Australia is the non-availability of Mitchell Marsh and Hazlewood. That puts a lot of workload on Starc and Cummins. But we have a 6 day gap after this test, so Aussies may go all out and bowl their hearts out to get a result tomorrow, rain gods permitting of course. As far as Indian batsmen are concerned, I have zero faith in them the way they've played this season — first at home against NZ, and then so far in Australia. If we go into Boxing Day with a score of 1-1, it will be only due to the rain factor. India on their part have done everything possible to ensure they lose this test match.5
