Feeling Torn About the Current Political Climate
I’ve always considered myself a-political by nature, but with everything happening in our country, it’s getting harder to stay that way. I’m not writing this because of an upcoming election, but as a general reflection on where we stand and what direction we’re heading. Let’s talk about the two major national parties: BJP: They’ve been in power for the past 10 years, but their governance style feels increasingly dictatorial. Policies seem unfriendly towards the middle class (the aam aadmi), and the tax burden keeps increasing without proportional benefits. Congress: Their decades-long rule is overshadowed by a history of corruption and scams. Recently, they’ve been making promises like increasing reservation, which I personally oppose, as I feel it divides society further and undermines merit. Then there are new or smaller parties that claim to bring change, but either they end up following the same patterns of corruption or lack the influence to make any significant impact. I feel stuck in this cycle where neither of the major parties seems to align with my hopes for the country’s progress, and alternatives seem ineffective. What are your thoughts? How do you make sense of this landscape and decide whom to support? I’d love to hear perspectives from others who feel similarly torn. https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/parliament-should-pass-law-on-reservations-to-exceed-50-cap-congress/article68352163.ece/amp/3
