Police checkposts

Yesterday, my family and I were returning to Hyderabad after visiting Nagarjuna Sagar. During our journey, we were stopped at a police checkpost, where they asked for our RC, insurance, and other documents. We usually carry all the required documents in the car, but since the car had just come back from a repair, we forgot to bring them. However, after checking our phone, we found the documents and continued. But just 2 kilometers later, we were stopped again for another check, and this happened a total of five times. My dad was confused as to why this was happening, as in his past experiences, we had never been stopped for actual checks. It was just a minor inconvenience, and the police were patient, but we were still curious as to why there were so many checkposts.
