About Free public transport
About countries which give Free public transport vs our country or state.. 1-what's the amount of people take public transport, 2-what's their revenue from public transport before making it free, 3-how's their country's economy condition and how wealthy is their public treachery. 1- In those countries, they wanted people to use public transport to avoid traffic and pollution and save fuel as not many people use public transport in their countries.. In hyderabad or Telangana, buses are the most used public transport. People actually wait for buses here. What people needed was new buses and more buses instead of Free rides. Free rides not only took away revenue 2300 crores from start of scheme in Dec 2023 to July 2024 but also burdened govt which also took away budget for new buses and maintenance of existing old buses which have a major chunk of aged buses which as per law needs to needed scrapped as those are not fit to pass a fitness test at any RTA. 2- Those countries public transport revenue before making it free was majorly sponsored by government. By them it makes sense when they are already sponsoring 70-90% of the costs to run public transport. Luxembourg had less 10% revenue of the total costs. For them it makes sense to make it free. For us, the revenue is significant from passengers. May not be in profits. However, the RTC revenues were going up and up and reducing losses by 50% in 2022 by limiting losses to 600 crores. The trajectory was up and soon RTC would become profitable. Now there is no chance as more than 3000 Cr revenue is lost per year. This is a disaster for RTC and our tax money and also environment as RTC can't as many new buses as before. 3-Those countries are developed/wealthy with surplus funds to sponsor the free rides.. We know what's our situation is. Delhi and Karnataka bad examples are proven facts about free rides to women actually made RTC and government lose huge revenues and leads to bailout from government.. Which led to increase of fares which are a burden on people who are paying for rides i.e., men.. RTC in Telangana was promising with connectivity and infrastructure with increased revenues now it is a burden in just two years. Also it made public turn impatient and had fights and led to disturbance between genders.3
