Resume writing checklist!
Job market is brutal out there! Having hired many people in my corporate career and with my experience of reviewing hundreds of resumes, I've written a resume writing guide on my website. I'm sharing some key pointers which I thought will be helpful for many others here: 1. In my experience, one page resume with one column layout works very well. 2. Make the bullet points single line only. 3. Quantifying the impact is important but not necessarily every point in your resume is expected to be quantified. 4. Do not lie or inflate numbers! 5. Do not write about the company, write what you've acheived and your impact. 6. Do not write job responsibilities! 7. Use xyz formula (recommended by google) for framing points. 8. Use action verbs 9. Send only pdf format file. 10. Tailor your resume as per different job posts 11. Summary is optional, you can skip 12. Ensure each experience or education is mentioned in reverse chronological order 13. Include portfolio links. 14. Linkedin profile link is must have. 15. No logos, illustrations please! 16. Stick to a single font( arial, calibri, times new roman) 17. Year of graduation is recommended. 18. Percentage score in academics is good to have. 19. You can skip soft skills section. 20. Remove any tool/technology which is basic like windows os, word doc etc.,. 21. Mentioning city of residence is enough, no need to mention address 22. No need of your photograph 23. If your resume exceeds 1 page, write all impactful points in first page 24. Proof read before you hit send 25. Use a naming convention like "your name_role_resume".pdf. I hope this helps!
