New Fuel station scam in hyderabad ?

At a particular fuel station today, I asked for "auto-stop" filling. The attendant quickly pulled a wire outwards a door like thing to the fuel dispensing machine. First the wire was inward the door, the wire was running through into some other connection. Which he pulled to come outwards the door, you can see in the picture. After filling up I asked for QR Code, he gave his personal one, instead of the fuel station QR being available. I took the bill and left the place... So question is what could this wire setup be ? Could it be some fraud ?
