In 28 years, the cost of living in India will overtake the cost of living in the US.
* Suppose you are a middle class family living in a tier 1 city. Then you pay around 40K in rent. 1L in monthly expenses. Roughly 1.5L per month is needed to survive. * Inflation in India averages around 6.75% annually. * Suppose you are a middle class family living in the US. You pay around 3000$ in rent. And another 1000$ for living expenses. Roughly around 4000$ \~= 3.45L per month is needed to survive. * Inflation in US averages around 3.5% annually. * After 28 years, for the same standard of living you would need 1.07 crores annually in US to survive. And 1.1 crores annually in India to survive. * Obviously no one in India is getting paid tier 1 US city wages in Hyderabad to be able to spend 1.1 crores annually. When that happens, there will be either be a large scale civil unrest with civilians taking to the street looting and plundering whatever they can find. Or there will be enough economic pressure for inflation to tapper down to 3.5% range or lower. This might lead to deflation and subsequently a recession too? Either way I think things are going to get really ugly in the next decade or two.5
