Father, 66 got a PSA of 27, consulting a senior urologist for next steps
My father 66M, always had issues with his urine flow, he was aware that with age prostrate gets bigger and we need to show to a doctor. He has been consulting doctors but took a pause for 5-6 years in between. Couple of weeks back he had burning sensation and could see dry skin in his urine, we immediately consulted a near by urologist so did ultrasound and then said it was normal and have some medicines for enlarged prostrate. My dad asked about prostrate cancer, the urologist seems surprised but asked to get psa done of we wanted. I randomly ordered psa test the dame day and bam, the result with 27 left me shocked to core, went to apollo jubilee hills the next day, dr ordered contract mri which was not good, its results said multiple lesions with pi rads 4/5 are there which suspects cancer. Dr asked for prostrate biopsy next day on 1st jan, during biopsy dr realised narrow passages for which they made internal incision and my dad was admitted for 2 days. While the line of treatment is as per NCCN’s guidelines, apollo is massive expensive. A biopsy with 2 day admission costed me upwards of Rs 2 lakhs, thankfully i have an insurance but still had to pay around 13% of my own. I am ok with paying more if its the best cancer treatment in Hyderabad, i am a working professional which no support system so going to a place like indo American which sees humongous crowds is not feasible. So good folks of Hyderabad, please advice and pass on any recommendations for a good oncologist or hospitals.4
