Help to understand my neighbor's traditions

I have a neutral relationship with my neighbor (1), just hi when we cross path, I do have two other neighbors also from hindu faith but we talk more than hi, we speak about work, family etc.. My Neighbor's (1) wife started blowing in a shell three times a day, one at sunrise , mid day and at sunset. Can anyone mention the meaning of this ritual and an explanation ? \-2 the second part which made me post here was I caught my neighbor's mother smear a white liquid to my door (picture provided), my ring camera caught her, but i don't understand why she didn't ask my permission since it's my door, I cleaned it, but haven't spoken to them yet, should I be concerned?
